Learn French Offline: Ascend

This app ("Learn French Offline: Ascend", the "App") is published by Balanced (the "Developer", "we", "us"). This policy explains, in plain language, what information the App handles, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to collect as little as possible: the App is built to work fully offline, with no account required.

1. Information that stays only on your device

Your learning happens entirely on your phone and is never sent to us. This includes:

• Your study progress and spaced-repetition schedule (which words are due, how well you know them).
• Your card deck, streak, and daily activity.
• Your settings (theme, audio speed, and similar preferences).
• Audio clips the App has downloaded or generated so lessons play offline.
• If you use "Record me" in the "Listen, pause, say" practice, your most recent recording, so you can play it back next to the native voice. Only the last one is kept, it is deleted when you leave the practice, and it is never uploaded.

If you uninstall the App, this on-device information is removed with it.

2. Information we handle only if you sign in (optional)

Signing in is optional and only needed for the online leaderboard. If you choose to sign in with Google, we handle:

• Your Google account email and a user ID. Used to create and secure your account. Sign-in is handled by our authentication provider (Supabase).
• A display name and city. Your display name defaults to your city, which is guessed from your device's time-zone setting (not your GPS location); you can change it any time. Your display name, city, and total days practised are shown to other learners on the public leaderboard.
• Your total days practised. Used to rank you on the leaderboard.

3. Sentence mining (Premium feature)

If you are a Premium subscriber and use the "Mine a sentence" feature, the French sentence you submit is sent to Google's services (Google Gemini for translation and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for audio) so the App can build a flashcard from it. We do not store the text of your sentence on our servers; we keep only a daily count of how many sentences you have mined, to apply fair-use limits. The generated audio is cached on your phone so the card plays offline afterwards.

4. Purchases

Subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed by Google Play Billing. Payment details are handled by Google; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage your Premium status across your devices; RevenueCat processes your purchase history and an app-specific identifier for this purpose. 5. Permissions the App uses

• Internet. Only for the optional leaderboard, sentence mining, and purchases. Core learning works without it.
• Notifications. Used only for a single on-device reminder shortly before a free trial would start billing, so you are not surprised. You can turn this off in your phone settings.
• Microphone. Used only when you tap "Record me" in the "Listen, pause, say" practice, to record you saying a French phrase so you can compare it with the native voice. The App asks the first time you tap it, never before. The recording stays on your phone and is never sent to us or anyone else. You can turn this off in your phone settings; everything else keeps working.

The App does not request your precise location, contacts, photos, or camera.

6. Third parties we rely on

• Supabase (authentication and leaderboard database)
• Google (Play Billing, and, for the mining feature only, Gemini and Cloud Text-to-Speech)
• RevenueCat (managing your Premium status)

We do not use advertising networks, and we do not use analytics or tracking software.

7. Data security and retention

Information sent to our servers is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS). Account and leaderboard information is kept while your account exists. If you request deletion, it is removed from our systems.

8. Deleting your data

You can sign out at any time in the App's Settings. To delete your account and the leaderboard information associated with it, contact us at the email below and we will remove it. Uninstalling the App removes all on-device data.

9. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

10. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
