This app ("Learn French Offline: Ascend", the "App") is published by Imran Hussain, who publishes on Google Play under the developer name "Sara Ben" (the "Developer", "we", "us"). This policy explains, in plain language, what information the App handles, why, and the choices you have. We have tried to collect as little as possible: the App is built to work fully offline, with no account required.
Your learning happens on your phone. If you do not sign in, none of it is ever sent to us, apart from the anonymous step counts in section 4. This includes:
If you sign in, a copy of some of this progress is also backed up to our servers, as described in section 2. Your recordings, drafts and settings never are.
If you uninstall the App, this on-device information is removed with it.
Signing in is optional. It is needed only for the online leaderboard, the cloud backup of your progress, and sentence mining. If you choose to sign in with Google, we handle:
Sentence mining needs you to be signed in. Everyone gets one free mine, and Premium members can mine more. When you use the "Mine a sentence" feature, the French sentence you submit is sent to Google's services (Google Gemini for translation and Google Cloud Text-to-Speech for audio) so the App can build a flashcard from it. We do not store the text of your sentence on our servers; we keep only a daily count of how many sentences you have mined, to apply fair-use limits. The generated audio is cached on your phone so the card plays offline afterwards.
To learn which steps of the course people reach, the App sends a small number of anonymous step counts, each at most once per phone: the App was first opened, the level check was finished, the first day of study, Lesson 9 and Lesson 16 were reached, Checkpoint 1 was passed, the Premium page was shown (and from where), and which plan was tapped. Each count carries only the step's name, that short detail, and the date. It carries no name, email, account, user ID, device ID or advertising ID, and nothing you type or say.
The counts wait on your phone and are sent when you are online. They are stored by Supabase and are readable only by us, as totals. Because they are not linked to you, we cannot pick out or delete one person's counts. You can stop them at any time: open Settings and turn off Share anonymous usage counts. Turning it off also deletes any counts still waiting on your phone.
Subscriptions and the lifetime unlock are processed by Google Play Billing. Payment details are handled by Google; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to manage your Premium status across your devices; RevenueCat processes your purchase history and an app-specific identifier for this purpose. See RevenueCat's privacy policy and Google's privacy policy.
The App does not request your precise location, contacts, photos, or camera.
We do not use advertising networks, and we do not use third-party analytics or tracking software. The anonymous usage counts in section 4 are our own and go only to our Supabase project.
Information sent to our servers is transmitted over an encrypted connection (HTTPS), and we use reputable providers to store it. No method of sending or storing information is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Account, leaderboard and backup information is kept while your account exists. When you delete your account it is removed from our live systems straight away, and from our providers' routine backups within 30 days.
From inside the App: open Settings, and under Account tap Delete my account, then confirm. This permanently deletes your account, your leaderboard entry, your cloud backup and your sentence-mining count from our live systems straight away (routine backups follow within 30 days, see section 8). The learning on your phone stays until you clear it (Settings, Erase all progress) or uninstall the App.
Without the App (for example, if you have already uninstalled it): email us from the Google account you signed in with, and we will delete it for you. The steps are also on our account deletion page.
Deleting your account does not cancel a Premium subscription; cancel that in Google Play. You can also simply sign out at any time in Settings. Uninstalling the App removes all on-device data.
The App is intended for adults aged 18 and over and is not directed to children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
